Jennifer Lopez displays her downsized derriere in a skintight diamante catsuit !

It is the curvaceous derrière which launched a modern-day diva.

But as Jennifer Lopez cavorted on stage in an utterly unforgiving diamanté-studded catsuit last night, her once ample bottom appeared to have been downsized.

Suffice it to say, there was no space for any lumps or bumps in a figure-hugging outfit which stole the show.

She teamed the catsuit - which looked see-through under the stage lights - with a pair of matching diamanté studded ankle boots.

The 40-year-old singer was performing her 1999 hits Waiting For Tonight and Let's Get Loud and her new single Louboutins at Times Square in New York to celebrate the start of 2010.

Despite miserable weather, more than 750,000 revellers braved the cold and rain to watch J.Lo sing. Millions also watched the show on television.

'You didn't think I could do that in the rain did you?' she said after risking a major wardrobe malfunction with a hugely energetic routine.

Her audience cheered as she writhed on the stage before high-kicking along to Frank Sinatra's classic New York, New York.

J.Lo grew up in the Bronx but admitted she had never been to Times Square to celebrate New Year's Eve.

After her performance, she told host Ryan Seacrest: 'This is my first time ever coming down here. It's just so much good, hopeful, amazing, loving energy. I feel like a little girl!'

I was persuaded to throw condoms at college crowd: Neha Dhupia

New Delhi, Jan 2 (IANS) Neha Dhupia says she had to be goaded quite a bit to throw a goody bag full of condoms and contraceptive pills at a college crowd here to promote her film 'Raat Gayi Baat Gayi' but realised it was a great marketing strategy that sent out a positive message.

'We had gone to the Mood Indigo festival at IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) in Mumbai and I was asked to throw around this goody bag. I said 'No! I'm not throwing it',' Neha told IANS. 'But my producer (Rangita Nandy) insisted that 'You must because it's got everything to do with the film'.

'And I was like 'No! What are we trying to project?' But I guess that was her way of promoting the film. We are just mediums. So I said yes to it.'

'Raat Gayi Baat Gayi', a Percept Picture Company (PPC) project, is about a one night stand. The movie has been directed by Saurabh Shukla and also features Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey.

The producers were trying to pull off a successful marketing stunt by throwing bags full of condoms, contraceptives, Disprin pills, et al, and Neha finally did it after realising that the exercise had a message attached to it.

'There was a message in all this - that if you have a hangover or if you are having a very drunk night - you must have contraceptives, protection, or antacid pills like Disprin. Everything was there in the bag. The message was - take it and go party. The bags had everything except cash to buy the alcohol,' said the 29-year-old.

The former beauty queen says she was pleasantly surprised with the response from the young students.

'The way the students reacted to me was so beautiful. It was the first time I ever went up to the stage and sang. I sang like a rock star or at least I thought I was. They just grabbed the bags. But if at that time, even if I would have thrown the wire of the mike, they would have grabbed it. Actually, initially I was hesitant about throwing it, but I learnt how to laugh with it,' she said.

After 'Raat Gayi Baat Gayi', in which she plays a mysterious woman called Sophia, Neha is looking forward to movies like 'Action Replay', 'Raftaar' and 'Pappu Can't Dance Saala'.

She, however, admits that she would like to do a romantic movie opposite Bollywood's king of romance Shah Rukh Khan.

'I am looking forward to a nice romantic film which hasn't come my way yet. I am hoping to get that soon. I am a big Shah Rukh fan and I would like him to be in it but then it doesn't have to be him. It can be anybody. It's just that Shah Rukh is magnificent,' she added.

Stepmother forced Ruchika to commit suicide: Rathore's lawyer

SPS Rathore's counsel, wife Abha Rathore, told the court on Friday that Section 306 of Indian Penal Code (IPC - abetment to suicide) could not be imposed on Rathore since the matter had been dealt with and quashed by the Supreme Court.

She also said that fresh cases registered against Rathore, the disgraced former Haryana police chief SPS Rathore, convicted of molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra 19 years ago, were due to media pressure.

The fresh charges being made now, she added, had not been raised in the last 19 years.

The counsel also said that a woman called Veena Girhotra, who was Ruchika's stepmother, had forced the girl to commit suicide.

Meanwhile, the hearing of the anticipatory bail plea by Rathore was adjourned by a court in Panchkula till Friday afternoon.

District sessions judge SP Singh, after hearing Rathore's counsel and wife Abha Rathore and Ruchika's family lawyer Pankaj Bhardwaj, asked the state government counsel to provide details of the case at the hearing slated to take place at 12.30 pm.

Rathore did not come to the court on Friday.

However, Bhardwaj countered the arguments saying that there was enough evidence to book Rathore under Section 306 and also for the torture of Ruchika's brother, Ashu. He said that Ruchika did not have any stepmother.

Rathore was Tuesday booked by Panchkula police in two fresh cases, including the non-bailable attempt to murder charge, after Ruchika's family filed fresh complaints.

Ruchika, a budding tennis player, was molested by Rathore here Aug 12, 1990. She committed suicide three years later (1993), unable to cope with the harassment of her family and torture of her brother by the Haryana police, which slapped false car theft cases on him.

Rathore was Dec 21 convicted by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court in Chandigarh. He was sentenced to six months rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000.

The photo fuels further rumours of an impending engagement and follows reports that Russell has bought a £2.2m love-nest for the loved-up couple.

Ruchika case: Disgraced Rathore seeks anticipatory bail

Disgraced former Haryana director general of police (DGP) SPS Rathore on Wednesday sought pre-arrest bail here, following the registration of two fresh cases against him for molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra and then allegedly hounding her till she killed herself.

Rathore's petition is being heard by District and Sessions Judge SP Singh.

Carrying a file in his hands, Rathore reached the Panchkula court flanked by his wife, who is also his lawyer. The two fresh FIRs (First Information Report) registered against him include charges for attempt to murder and wrongful confinement.

In contrast to his smiling face Dec 21 when he was convicted for molesting Ruchika, Rathore on Wednesday kept a straight face and avoided answering the barrage of questions thrown at him and his wife by waiting reporters.

In first appearance since the public outcry over the quantum of sentence for molesting Ruchika, the former Haryana director general of police wore an olive green jacket over a sky blue shirt and a navy blue tie.

The government has now ordered a fresh probe into the molestation case and may also charge Rathore with abetment to suicide. Ruchika, a budding tennis player, killed herself three years after the molestation incident, as Rathore allegedly kept hounding her and her family, including the slapping of false criminal cases against her brother.

Rathore's six-month jail sentence for molestation and the Rs 1,000 fine came 19 years after the incident.
