In a decision that can bring a lot of relief to aggrieved parents, the Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the government should regulate the fee structure of private schools and it should not be commercialised.

The apex court upheld its judgement delivered in 2004 that said schools cannot increase the fees without the permission of government. The court observed that it has the right to stop commercialisation of education.

The court was hearing a petition filed by schools saying they have to match the salary structure of the Sixth Pay Commission so the fee hike was necessary.
