The upcoming Metro bridge over Dhaula Kuan will add to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) already long list of technological innovations and marvels.
The 542-metre-long bridge over one of Delhi’s busiest traffic intersections is made of four special spans, the longest being 168 metres.
According to DMRC officials, this would be the longest span in India to be built using the post-tensioned continuous casting technique and will be supported on five pillars.
Unlike metro’s elevated corridors, which are constructed using pre-fabricated segments, the spans of this bridge are being cast on site.
“There is continuous movement of traffic on eight roads at this intersection and using launching girders to put pre-cast segments in place would have hampered traffic movement,” a DMRC spokesperson said.
